Foraging for Plant Dyes in Winter and Living Sustainably Throughout the Year: A Look at the Alder Tree

Despite the apparent bleakness, winter is a treasure-trove of natural dyes which we forage and store in the Juniper & Bliss studio for use throughout the year. We make naturally dyed sustainable pieces for eco friendly homes and slow living spaces. Today I want to explore the wonderful properties of the alder tree (Alnus glutinosa). The flowers that turn into small woody cone-like fruits, the double serrated leaves and the dark, fissured bark often mottled with lichen are staples in our larder.

It is pure and simple.

Beds And Bluebells Beneath The Beech Tree Canopy!

Beds And Bluebells Beneath The Beech Tree Canopy!

At Juniper & Bliss we love to make our bed and lie in it! In Early May we went down to the woods and made our bed on a carpet of hazy bluebells under the lime green leaves of early Spring! Our mission– to shoot Juniper & Bliss’ very first short film. Ambreen Hameed, a wonderful friend and creative. We mixed and matched the colours from our collection of naturally dyed, hand woven, organic cotton-satin bedding. The soft grey duvet cover dyed with vetiver rested gently on the Yasmeen white sheets, softened with aloe vera. The pillows in a mixture...

Paris In The Spring – Our Debut Collection!

We are really pleased to be able to tell you that we will be showing our debut collection at La Biennale in Paris hosted by the supreme advocates of Sustainable Luxury, 1.618. With every purchase we make, increasingly we want to know the provenance of things and appreciate that slow and patient work that is integral to handmade things created in harmony with nature ground us and are a personal expression of the maker. Truly one off items create an invisible thread between the maker and the user, binding them in mutual respect and appreciation. Come and see our range...
