Kind Blanket - Tansy
Plant dyed and hand knitted Kind Blanket in tansy dye
Every Kind Blanket is special and unique. Hand knitted in England from traditional Norwegian wool, it is edged with a halo of mohair and dyed with the natural colours from plants gathered in fields, forests and gardens that surround our studio in Kent. Each blanket tells the story of its colour.
The blankets display varying hues that the dyeing process yields from a single batch of vegetation -- from the vibrant and the deep to the soft and the watery. Using flowers, leaves, peels, seeds, twigs, bark and branches, this limited edition of one-off KIND blankets is made in-house by Juniper & Bliss.
Knitting and dyeing each Kind Blanket takes approximately 120 hours. We make them because we like to.
These blankets are an heirloom of the future. We hope you will enjoy them and pass on to others to keep warm.
Juniper & Bliss specialize in ethically produced hand made textiles.
Kind Blanket – TANSY
Prized for its health benefits, Tansy has been a staple in the herbalists’ sachet in most cultures. In Europe, it was grown by the ancient Greeks through to the Benedictine monks and nuns in the herb gardens of monasteries and cloisters. In parallel, the Cherokee and Cheyenne in North America are known to have relied on it for various remedies, whilst in India, it continues to be a key ingredient in the ayurvedic tradition.
Tansy is also a treasured plant for the dyers’ pot, yielding reliable sunshine yellow as vibrant as the flowers themselves. The flowers for this blanket were grown in our dye garden where a bed is dedicated to these wonderfully fragrant leaved, tall summer plants!
